When people are living in this society, not all the things satisfied people’s need. Sometimes
they may not agree with the government’s policy, or they think some laws are not acceptable.
In order protect their own rights, they may choose methods to bargain with the governments
or the policy makers. The protest is a good choice for the individuals to choose to get what they
want from the governments. During the 19th century, the baseball players also choose this
strategy to get what they want from the society. Thus, Lipsky’s model of protest mainly works
in 19th century baseball because players have leaders, targets and organization and the mass
bass for protest to successes.
Principally, Lipsky’s model of protest introduces what is a successful protest. In his work, he lists
out several key factors that are very important for a protest. Also, in this article, the author tries
to figure out and explores the protest activities. A protest is an expression of bearing witness on
behalf of an express cause by words or actions with regard to particular events, policies or
situations. “It is also can be defined as a mode of political action oriented toward objection to
one or more policies or conditions, characterized by showmanship or display of an
unconventional nature, and undertaken to obtain rewards to from political and economic
systems.” (1145) It has many forms in the society, and it is also a strategy for powerless people
increase their bargain ability. From the article Protest As a Political Resource, we can know that
a successful protest needs a formal structure, the targets, the organization and the mass bass.
