What I Learned from This Course
Composition I happens to be the first English class I’ve taken at Odessa College. The course itself
included three modules, with an essay due for each one. Module one introduced and taught me the basic
writing format; Module two introduced and taught me the basics of analytical writing; Module three,
which I found to be a little more difficult than the other modules, introduced and taught me the basics of
researched writing and citation styles. My experience has been quite challenging but in a good useful way.
I was able to learn and use the three-part writing format, the need to proofread my writing on a sentence
level, and collaborative teamwork.
Above all, the three-part writing format is the most important technique I learned from the
course. The format was given to us two different ways, brief and more explained. At first, I took a look at
the explained format and decided that was the one I was going to use. I ended up liking the brief way
much better, since it’s much easier to use and read, when writing. The brief format is a specific outline of
the format, it’s detailed enough, and quite simple to master. The format includes the introduction, main
body, and conclusion. We were to put this format to use in each essay we wrote. Personally, I always had
the format open every time I was writing. I referred to it as much as possible, and I found it helpful every
time. It was fairly easy to learn, I just liked making sure I was on the right track; I can even say I have it
open right now. I have actually been using this format in my other courses, since I’ve been assigned essays,
it has been a great reference to use while writing. In brief, the three-part writing format has taught me to
write one-thousand-word essays, which I have never done before. I will most likely be using it in the
