WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE WORTHY?
To me, being worthy means that I like myself and that my life has purpose. However, my
belief in my worthiness sometimes waxes and wanes with changing circumstances. When things
are going well, it’s much easier to believe in my personal value and to know that I deserve
respect and dignity. When things are falling apart, it’s more difficult to believe in my self-worth.
Challenging times are when self-doubt and second-guessing creep in and erode my self-
confidence with questions like, “who do I think I am?” and, “what will people think?”
The foundations of my self-worth are my self-esteem, my self-respect and my belief in
myself. For example, my belief in my competence is based on my accomplishments, my
successes, and my ability to learn from my failures. My self-worth is also based on gifts I’ve
