What Defines a Positive Leader?
A positive leader cultivates the spirit of optimism and empowers their subjects to achieve
their full potential. Leadership does not only involve giving instructions to your subjects, but it
also involves motivating your subjects and ensuring that their well-being is also considered. A
positive leader contributes to their subjects’ success and well-being as they help them learn and
grow to achieve their full potential. Various characteristics define who a positive leader is, and
they revolve around the leader’s ethical behavior. Positive leaders know what drives and
motivates them, and they conduct their actions in a virtuous manner to achieve the goals they
have set (Dutton and Gretchen 2). Positive leaders are responsible moral agents that discern right

actions. Leaders have a sphere of influence that affects how their subordinates perform various
activities. Thus, positive leaders are more focused on empowering their subordinates instead of
controlling them.
A positive leader leads with honor and serves as a role model to others. True leaders often

They lived by a set of codes that influenced how they related with others and performed their
various roles. A Jedi had a strong desire for moral excellence, which helped them lead according
to the public interest instead of personal interest (68). As a positive leader leads with honor, it
makes them role models for too many people as they want to emulate their behavior. They align
their words with their actions as they emulate positive behaviors such as trustworthiness,
accountability, and honesty in their actions (Dutton and Gretchen 5). People are inclined to
respect and admire leaders that have high integrity and ethical behaviors thus leading with honor
is important for a positive leader who aspire to inspire their subordinates.
A positive leader has endurance and is courageous. Being a positive leader is not easy for
