MANDATE OF PALESTINE AND THE JEWISH NATIONAL HOME
“You can’t have occupation and human rights.” ― Christopher Hitchens(1997). The Israeli-Arab
modern issue started in 1948 when the British Mandate of Palestine had been converted into a new
state for Jews after World War II, Israel. There had been previous Jewish based Israeli groups that
had rebelled against the Palestinian Mandate, such as Irgun and Haganah. The conflict even was also
present in ancient times, when the kingdoms of Judea and Israel were overtaken by the Roman
Empire in 135 CE, and the Romans renamed the kingdom to Palestine selling many of the Jewish
people as slaves to Egypt. Six centuries later, during the Arab conquest in Palestine, this land had a
Muslim majority population, with smaller Jewish and Christian communities, which would remain
