Any company when selecting the right candidate for an open position hiring manager need to make a
decision about whether that position can be filled with internally or outside recruiting is needed
depending on the job, availability of qualified candidates, company policies and recruiting cost.
Primarily there are two ways to fill a position. One is hire or promote from within the company.
Although similar in many respects internal and external recruiting sources differ in terms of planning,
effort and time required to implement and cost. Therefore, every employer should weigh the pros and
cons associated with them and depending on the company’s own need at the time one method may
better benefit the company’s goal.
Promoting internally is generally safest and most affordable option when hiring. There are numbers of
benefit of hiring from within the company.
• Know the candidate’s strength and weakness.
The organization might have better understanding on the personality or the attitude of the internal
candidate that the department is going to hire. Besides the organization will have the detailed
records from the previous supervisor and can have better arrangement on the task based on the
candidate’s capability.
• More committed
Current employee may be more committed to the company as they were working at this company
for period of time, they will regard themselves as the part of the company. The hired candidates will
think they have the responsibility to contribute more and make the organization better.
• Enhance employee morale
Morale may rise if employee see promotions as reward for loyalty and competence. Employee will
think their contribution and hardworking are being appreciated and pay attention by their superiors,
