Contemporary human resources management is focused on developing, engaging, and
ensuring the satisfaction of employees. More organizations are looking to incorporate
holistic approaches in keeping employees engaged by focusing on their personal life, well-
being, and work life. Numerous surveys have been conducted to show that a happy
employee results in various benefits for employers. Some of these benefits include a
decrease in employee turnover, increase in employee production, satisfied customers, and
an increase in employee morale. For instance, General Motors, a global automotive
company is a prime example of how employee recognition and engagement can help an
organization. It employs more than 160,000 employees over 6 continents (Wong 2019).
They started a GM Recognition Program, which is used by 67,000 employees over 26
countries (Wong 2019) . It recognizes employees, builds morale, and allows for them to
earn redeem points for a reward of their choosing. GM is a good example of a global
organization that has adapted to the needs of their workforce.
Collaboration between employees and technology
Collaboration technology is defined as tools and systems that are used to help in the
facilitation of group work, in office work, and remote work (CTI, 2019). This technology is
not a new phenomenon. Organizations have been using emails and messaging systems for
