The Gaining of new Lands
Westward expansion is a key component right now to the United States. America
is viewed as a small weak nation. In order to change the thoughts and opinions of what
other nations have, we need to change. The United States has to have the desire to
conquer and obtain vast varieties of new lands. If America chooses not to, the respect
and image of America will remain small and weak. If going to war with other nations or
natives is the only way for the United States to gain more territory than that is what is
going to happen. Nothing should stand in the way of America and its desires. Westward
expansion was greatly affected by the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase
allows Americans to go out and find new land.
Ever since the first Europeans set a shore in what is now the United States, they
set out and expanded their influences and beliefs westward. Once colonies were
established, the numbers of people increased and many immigrants came to the United
States. With the population growing rapidly, the colonies soon began to deteriorate.
Many peoples’ farm lands began to die and not produce as well as it did before. This is
one reason to why Americans had to spread westward and find new lands to grow and
prosper. If the United States does not fight for more land, changes will not occur and
America will stay a small nation.
