Game Day in Auburn, Alabama
On a certain misty, autumn Saturday morning in Auburn, Alabama most people
cannot wait to hear their alarm clocks go off in the morning. A young boy named Will
wakes up anxiously to the chimes he hears coming from his alarm clock. This is not any
normal Saturday to him and his family, this is Iron Bowl Saturday, when the Auburn
Tigers play against their hated rivals, the Alabama Crimson Tide. This matchup is one
for the ages. Alabama is ranked as the best team in the country, opposed to Auburn
who comes in ranked fourth best. Will bolts out of his bed and runs vigorously down the
spiraling stairs where he hears the bacon sizzling on a cast-iron skillet and smells the
aroma of sausage on the kitchen table. “Good morning, Momma”, he says to his
mother. “Good morning to you, William. Did you sleep alright?” she asks. As Will
scrambles around the kitchen to get a plate of breakfast he replies, “I could hardly sleep
because of my excitement towards the game today!”. Will’s mother smiles and hands
him a glass of orange juice to accompany his breakfast.

pack up the car for the tailgate before the game. Will helps pack up the tiger-themed
lawn chairs, the big orange and blue coolers, and of course, all of the food. The car is

packed like his family is going on vacation, however they are going just 5 miles down
the road to Jordan-Hare Stadium, the home of the Auburn Tigers. The family arrives
and the streets are filled with people as if it is Times Square on a busy holiday. Will
helps his mother and father unload the car as his brother and sister anxiously await their
presence at their tailgate spot. Will pulls his cart of food across the busy sidewalks
through the campus of Auburn alongside thousands of football fans eating themselves
into a coma before the game kicks off at seven PM later that night. As he walks closer,
he sees the stadium. He pauses and takes out his phone for a picture of this sight.
Chills go down his body as he thinks back to the past years of this very matchup and
how the games have gone down to the wire and suddenly he realizes his family is fifty
yards ahead of him and quickly gets out of his so called daydream. Will finally makes
