Chapter 1 – Week 2 Assignments
1. It’s important understanding his work because Edward Hall emphasis on the importance
of cultural awareness as well as cultural diversity. Edward Hall shows how understanding
one culture is importance because a simple gesture such as getting a translator is
considered an insult to well educated Japanese instructors. This intel how something so
simple and meaningless to one culture could have a completely different effect to another
culture even when there are good intensions behind the actions. The work of Edward Hall
shows how great an impact a simple question, gesture, comment, or action can impact a
culture and have none on others. Also, I found how personal space is something we
naturally respect in our American culture, but others don’t even see personal space as a

2. A person is on the verge of committing suicide because they lost their job, home, and
wife, and seems like everything is falling a part in their life; well a first responder comes
