Between 1903 and 1917, photographer Alfred Stieglitz pioneered and published what I believe to
be an impactful accomplishment helping shape what photography has become today. Alfred
Stieglitz’s vision for “Camera Work” was to create a journal that would advance photography as
a fine art and medium of individual expression. His photographic journal was published quarterly
and featured work that promoted photography as an art form equal to painting. Camera Work
featured pictorial American and European photographers who utilized soft focus devices to
convey the true emotion and feeling through their photographs. Alfred Stieglitz’s publication
was known not only for its beautiful photogravures reproducing the fine photographs of the
Photo-Secession, but also for its introduction of modern European art to America. Camera Work
