Ethical Duties of a Tax Professional
It is hard to deny that accounting professionals need to comply with a vast array of
ethical standards and regulation to maintain the agenda of sustainable practice. First of all, it
is crucial to note that accounting practitioners have to respect the provisions of the AICPA
Code of Professional Conduct which holds that it is crucial to adhere to the principles of
integrity and accuracy (Fatemi, Hasseldine, & Hite, 2018). For instance, the researchers note
that if tax professionals adhere to the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct, it is possible to
avoid the pressure of the confirmation bias (Fatemi, Hasseldine, & Hite, 2018, p. 106). It can
be explained by the fact that the reluctance to act with integrity and advocacy leads to the
overreliance of a tax professional on the “inconclusive information” (Fatemi, Hasseldine, &
Hite, 2018, p. 106), and accordingly, pro-client decisions might be taken over the course of
such a practice.
It is crucial to note that the ethical duties of a tax professional are based on the
concept of confidentiality (Hess, Haney, & MacPhail, 2017). The tax professionals are
