PGY2101 – Week 3 Questions
When asked what possessions you would rescue if your house was on fire, people frequently
mention a photo album, or a computer filled with all their digital images. We would grab photos
over valuable jewelry, even in moments of panic. This inclination to save our memories is a
powerful force, one that reveals much about the impact of photography and the power it holds
for each one of us. Photographs are a timeline of our lives filled with faces and places; they are
the story we tell through thousands of images we take that together form the narrative of who
we are and what we cherish most. I think photographs should continue holding a lot of power
for these reasons above. However, I believe that the power a photograph carries lies with the
person looking at it. In today’s day and age with digital enhancements, filters, and tools for
creating “the perfect image”, it’s important to not let certain “negative” powers from an image
affect you. If we allow an image to have the power in bringing our self-esteem down, causing
perception of the truth or not.
