The conflict that I often remember that has happened in a group in which I was also a member is
the time when I and 3 other members had to set up a computer laboratory for a school. We had to
set up 50 computers within 4 days of time and this included the networking among the computers
also. As there was limited time for us to do all the technical and administrative work we wanted
the computers and other networking materials to be made available to us as fast as possible. We
had made one of the member as group leader who used to do all the logistic and coordination
work.
Conflict aroused when he showed less interest in helping us in the technical part of setting up the
Lab and was more interested in exercising the authority. He could not coordinate well in bringing
the computers and other materials required to complete the work but was bluffing about he is the
leader and we must do what he says. He was exercising more of impoverished management style
of leadership in which he did not had concern neither for the task at hand nor was interested in
building interpersonal relationship with the group members which he could have done through
timely information dissemination. The only positive aspect of him was that he always used to say
we will finish in time despite we were not getting things done on time. We were only able to
complete the set up in 10 days due to this conflict and inefficiency of ours. School management
was not happy with us and even delayed our payment (Northhouse, 2018, p.142)
