Moses is one of the most recognizable names when it comes to religion, at least from a
westerner’s prospective. He is found in Judaism, Christianity as well as Islam. Moses is a
descendent of Abraham and at the time of his birth all Egyptians were to kill any newborn
Hebrew male. Due to this obligation when Moses was born his mother sent him down a
river in order to protect her baby boy from being put to death. The Pharaoh’s daughter was
said to have picked him up and adopted him. It is also told that Moses refused to be
suckled, or breast-fed, by anyone but his biological mother. Despite this he was raised by
the Pharaoh in the royal household and grew up with all Egyptians however, when Moses
saw an Egyptian mistreating a Hebrew he murdered the Egyptian and was forced to flee.
Moses then went on to get married and lead the Hebrews out of Egypt. From my own
personal perspective on the story of Moses killing the Egyptian, I find it to be with out
questioning wrong. I find it even more wrong that this story is often taught to such young
children. If you take this circumstance into a present day situation, it is very similar to
