Radley Balko in his article “What you eat is your business” argues that what we eat should
remain a matter of personal responsibility and that staying trim is a matter of individual
willpower. He says that government pays lots of money for anti-obesity programs. He
suggests that instead of this government should foster a sense a responsibility and
ownership of our own health and well-being. Balko says that insurance companies should
charge overweight people higher premiums and congress should increase access to medical
and health saving accounts, which give consumers the option of rolling money reserved for
health care into a retirement account.
On the one hand, I agree with Balko that people should be responsible about their diet. But
one the other hand, I still insist that government and fast food companies are responsible
for obesity too. government should make some regulations for fast food companies, should
inform people about diets and encourage alternative choices for eating healthy.
Government should make some regulations for fast food companies. This regulations
could be labeling fast food products. People should know what they consume. Fast food
products should have labels like products at crosery store. Fast food companies are not
interested to inform people because they are interested only in their business, so without
government regulations they will not make labels on their products.
Government should inform people about diets. People should be responsible for their diets,
