Affirmative Brief
RESOLVED: The United States Federal Government should substantially increase statutory
and/or judicial restrictions on the war powers authority of the President of the United States in
introducing United States Armed Forces into hostilities.
I. The affirmative defines the following terms from various legal online databases
A. War Powers Act- A federal law introduced to check the power of the President in
committing the U.S. to an armed conflict without the consent of Congress.
B. Restrictions- The act of limiting or controlling something
C. Authority- The power to give orders or make decisions: the power or right to direct or
control someone or something.
