Walmart Vs. Amazon
In this article I will attempt to compare the ongoing sales battle between the two heavy weight
retailers of Walmart and Amazon as they slug it out in the retail ring. Walmart has dominated
the retail brick and mortar stores since 1990 but had lost sight of threats from E-commerce
companies like Amazon.
In overall retail sales Walmart is the winner with over $519 billion in net sales in 2020 compared
to Amazon at $322 billion according to Statistica.com (2021). Sam Walton started Walmart in
1962 in Rogers Arkansas after having ran a successful dime store for 12 years in Bentonville
Arkansas (Walmart.com, 2021). Walton’s idea was to create a store based on lower prices and
better service. The Walmart business grew and eventually went public in 1970 to fund further
