Individual Case #1 – Wal-Mart
Wal-Mart is a company under a large public watch and is a(acked by activist
groups and unions for what they claim to be unfair practices and policies. Activist claim
Wal-Mart needs to understand society is changing, and with that, their values need to
change to line up with our countries values of fairness, opportunity and equality.
Conversely, Wal-Mart believes they need to focus on two main things, its customers and
its associates, and ignore the public and their concerns. However, in the recent years,
Wal-Mart has faced many nonmarket issues, and will continue to face these issues as
long as interest groups and activist are around. Wal-Mart cannot so easily ignore public
concerns anymore; a nonmarket strategy is needed.
