One of the easiest and the fastest way to enter new markets is to acquire an already
existing market player. The Flipkart-Walmart deal is a classic example of such an

Companies may acquire similar product lines to diversify their portfolios or may acquire
completely new businesses in order to add a new product or service to their existing

Flipkart deal
Amazon currently is the largest ecommerce player in the world. In the past few years amazon
has been expanding rapidly into varied businesses.
One of its major focus continues to be the Indian ecommerce market. The Indian ecommerce
market is expected to grow to around $40 billion by the end of 2020 and the number of
ecommerce users are expected to rise to 200 million by the end on 2020.
Walmart which is popular across the world for its brick and mortar stores has been unable to
make a major dent in the ecommerce space. Over the years in the US which is the primary
market for Walmart, amazon has been successful in capturing most of the ecommerce sales.
Almost half of ecommerce sales in the US today are driven by amazon. In the past few years
