Waiting For Superman
In the documentary Waiting For “Superman”, American system of education is talked
about several problems are pointed out. One of them is that numerous schools are failing to
prepare students for higher education. I really cannot say much about it as I am an
international student here, but I believe it is awful when children are unable to receive
proper education because there are no spaces left for admission to “good” schools.
I went to a school in Ukraine. In my country, we have a different system. Students are
divided into groups of 20-30 people that attend same classes for each group. Sometimes
groups may study a program with emphasize in certain subjects, and sometimes they may
all go through the same program. Like in the US, we have so-called “good” schools and
“bad” schools. However, each “bad” school has good groups of students and each “good”
school has some bad groups of students. So if you are a student with a desire to learn more
and faster, you will get transferred from one group to another.
I was in one of the best public schools in my city. It was hard to study, but a student there
could get properly prepared for entering a good college if he or she was into studying and
wanted to continue their education. Knowledge gained at school was enough for me to
