Waffle House
The first Waffle House was located in Avondale Estates, Georgia. Two men, one
named Joe Rogers Sr. and the other Tom Forkner, invented the franchise never
expecting it would prevail in the way that it did. The restaurant was an immediate
success. The opening day for the restaurant was Labor Day weekend in 1955; by the
year of 1961 they had acquired a franchise of 4 small restaurants. Today there are
approximately more than 2,100 Waffle House locations in 25 states. The menu
includes eggs, salads, steaks, burgers, sandwiches, hash browns, and of course
waffles. In 1987 Dun & Bradstreet reported that Waffle House had 351 franchisees in
addition to its network of company-owned stores. It also was reported that Waffle House
employed a workforce of 4,500 people, had a financial worth of roughly $60 million, and
