Cultural Diversity in the Workplace
Cultural Diversity in the Workplace have become a globalization business that come with
many challenging in the workplace from the 21st century. .He stated “Cultural competence in
brief, is the ability to interact effectively with people from different cultures. This ability depends
on awareness of one’s own culture worldview, knowledge of other culture practices and
worldviews, tolerant attitudes toward cultural difference, and cross-cultural skills” (Richard and
Alpert, (2018) p1). When diverse occurred in the work place people must come with a different
strategy to solve problems on the job. Once people work together in the work place business can
become successful in job training.
The idea of cultural diversity is to involve a various racial and ethnic background in the
work place. She stated “According to the Society for Human Resources Management, diversity
means valuing the characteristics that make a person unique, such as an age, ethnicity, education
level and family background. Inclusion of diverse individuals fosters a rich exchange of new
ideas among employees and help an organization leverage the unique character of its workplace”
(Leonard, (2018), p1). Once a business involved everyone ideas then everyone feels like their
opinion matter to the companies. Everyone can learn something from another cultural and not
stereotype their belief.
Most companies have developed diversity initiatives that forces on diverse in the
workplace. Lindblad (2018) found one strategy involves posting new openings outside the usual
channels to generate a diverse pool of candidates. An organization may also create diversity
networks, when individuals with attributes can gather, celebrate their culture and help others
understand it” (p.1). A company that involved themselves in networking can build a relation with
their customer.

One way a company can become successful in cultural diversity is communication.
Communication allow everyone in the company to share ideas and information about the
company. However, projects that are assigned to teams can allow everyone to discuss their ideas
within that team. According to Alpert (2018), People from some Asian cultures are reluctant to
give supervisor bad news-while those from other cultures mat exaggerate it (p.1). She stated,
“Over decade, enforcement of civil rights and antidiscrimination laws has helped create an
atmosphere of tolerance for individual different” (Leonard (2018), p1). Therefore, companies
that want to expand global marketplace must hire new employees that understand cultural
diversity.
She stated, “When people that come from different background, they have different ways
of speaking, different habits and different methods of doing things. When this embraced in the
work environment, new ideas on how to improve procedures, sales processes and fulfillment
operations emerge” (Leonard, 2018, p1). Most people from the United States choose to do things
alone for as team buildings. According to Richard (2018) “Team-building issues can become
more problematic as teams are comprised of people from a mix of these cultural types. Effective
cross-cultural team-building is essential to benefiting from the potential advantages of cultural
diversity in the workplace” (p1). When working with people from different cultural it allows
that companies to see things differently from other cultures. According to Thakrar (2017), “This
breaks down barriers and builds support and encouragement for advocating and finding
opportunities for mentees. Interactions between these different groups, especially when working
towards a common goal, often lead to more openness and breaking down barriers to find
similarities” (1).

When people are capable to be themselves that allows them to become engaged in any
project that are giving to them. Once a team become engaged with an assigned that allow them to
be reliable and understand the company vision. Leonard (2018) found “companies like Googles
have a great corporate culture because they embrace team different and needs(p.1). A single
mother that work for Googles can have a flexibility work schedule that meet child needs.
It is hard to find good people that valued their job in the marketplace especially small
business. All companies can embrace all cultural diversity based on their loyalty to the
companies. She stated, “When people feel appreciated and valued, they want stay and continue
to serve as part of a great team. Reducing employee turnover helps you reduce human resources
cost and develop the team you trust to take your company you the next level” (Leonard, 2018,
