Volkswagen has taken great pride in their German engineering and have establish themselves as
one of the leading auto manufactures in the world. As one can see, they are now establishing
themselves as one of the largest companies contributing to reducing emissions into our atmosphere. But
how are they integrating “Going Green” with their German engineering? When one looks at Volkswagen,
they naturally think “German”. Well, through Volkswagen’s marketing campaign, it will not be long
before one looks at their product and thinks “Green”.
One major campaign Volkswagen launched was their “Think Blue” website. This website
advertises and explains Volkswagen’s vision on helping our atmosphere out. This easy to navigate
website explains how they plan to lead by example for other automotive businesses to follow. This site
provides links to each of their manufacturing locations throughout the world. Their marketing campaign
has made sure people from all over the world can have access to view what they are accomplishing at
each manufacturing site. Yet, how has Volkswagen marketed the “Think Blue” campaign to those who do
not have access to a computer on a daily bases?
The Kitesurf World Cup is one of the largest kitesur,ng tournaments in Germany and
Volkswagen is one of the biggest sponsors the tournament has. They were also sponsored a world
renowned surfer named Mario Rodwald. This tournament usually is made up of about 22 countries that
have at least one surfer competing out of the other 121 surfers. This tournament is said to a1ract over
200,000 visitors during its ten day span. With Volkswagen being one of the biggest sponsors, they were
able to bring in some of their “all electrics” vehicles and have people test drive them. However, even
though this has been great exposure for the company, what has the company done to put its “green
footprint” on this planet? Manufacture automobiles that exert fewer emissions than the average
automobile is great but is there not more the company can do?
