1. The perimeter defense system is used in three ways. The first one is three defenders on
the court boundary lines the back line and both side lines. Then one person usually the
setter on the 10 foot line. Rotation is also used during defense to move around to keep
the ball from touching the ground. The coach might choose this system if the opposing
team has shown to send the balls over to the edges. I would choose this because it is
easier to move into the court than go to the line. Might also make it easier to not hit the
ball if it goes out of bounce.
2. The rover system outside in making lateral defense tactics. The back row people will be
trying to dig the ball from the back corners. The setter will move and play almost like a
back row to try to get the second hit. This tactic might not work as well if some spots are
left open and nobody is covering it. Deep middle position might make it complicated to
get balls if they go further back. The coach could choose if the setter is better at being in
the back or deep middle. I think I would choose this if the other team was showing that
they were hitting the ball in the deep middle spots repeatedly.
3. With the rotational defense system they will have one person playing middle up and the
rest on the net. There will be some on and off blockers of the net. Some will be on the
net trying to block the ball before it comes over the net. The negative affects of this could
be the ball might pass over top of the blockers and hit an open spot. The coach might
choose this defense if the other team has shown they are skilled in hitting the ball over
the net. I would choose this system if the team is struggling to keep a back defense.
