Capstone/Reflection Paper
“We were built for work and the dignity it gives us as human beings, regardless of its
status or pay.” (Keller, pg. 41) Each of us was born and has different gifts, talents, usual skills,
and powerful needs. In other words, it’s called passion when we do things we like. Sometimes, I
think about what I am doing, whether that will be my favorite job, or I’m just trying to make
money or any other responsibilities. However, I realized that I have the ability to work and
contribute, and I believe that is what God has placed in my heart. Also, Keller pointed that “We
are given specific work to do because we are made in God’s image.” But I think it’s necessary
when we use these strengths to benefit the whole body of God, and these capabilities are related
to the gifts God has given us. In addition, we can bring our desires, our talents to serve the
society, and when we do that, everyone is built. All of us, each one has one position. When you
find the place and work at there, we all get better. “And every Christian should be able to
identify, with conviction and satisfaction, the ways in which his or her work participates with
God in his creativity and cultivation.” (Keller, pg. 41) In my viewpoint, I agree with this because
everyone should know the image of who we are to conviction and satisfaction with. Also, we all
participate in “creativity and cultivation” of God’s work. In Ephesians 4:7, “But to every one of
us has grace been given in the measure of the giving of Christ,” our Lord is the Lord that has
order and organization, so He has the plan for each part of his whole, and it lasts “till we all
come to the harmony of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to full growth, to the
full measure of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:13) By that, we are truly in an important place of God as
the “representatives”, and God is ongoing to work in our lives in different fields. Bearing the
inscription of God’s image, people feel the load of work and feel tired in their work situations.
This way or another, work can be a slave (St 3:19). Elsewhere, only Christ can liberate man. His
industry also touches our work. Christ always “works,” as his Father “always works” (Jn 5:17).
This is the work of love and connection. Our work can be a share in the work of Christ. All the
work interested and consequent from the heart, and realized in combination with Christ, is a
partnership in construction and improvement.
Moreover, in Every Good Endeavor, Keller quotes, “This world is the forerunner of the
new heavens and the new earth, which will be purified, restored, and enhanced at the renewal of
all things,” (page 52) but I don’t think that God want us to be perfect, He uses us, and He will
