Visualization of Gods and Goddesses
Epic poetry uses different characteristics. Homer uses stock epithet throughout his epic
poetry to describe and give the readers a visualization of the following three characters:
Aphrodite, Apollo, and Ares in his work The Iliad.
Stock epithets are use to describe the goddess Aphrodite. She is known as “goddess of
love and beauty.” In The Iliad Helen of Troy recognizes Aphrodite as “the round, sweet throat
goddess” and “her eyes were full of shining.” These phrases are use to describe Aphrodite
