Visual Analysis Essay
The television commercial I would like to discuss is the 2013 Pepsi commercial that
features recording artist Beyoncé Knowles. The commercial aired in February 2013, a sixty
second commercial of Beyoncé dancing while sipping a Pepsi. There are two important factors
that made this commercial a hit: the first of course is selling Pepsi as a product; secondly
Beyoncé’s new song “Grown Woman” is playing in the back ground. The ad takes place in what
appears to be a dance studio with full length mirrors. The ad includes some of her familiar outfits
and moves from her past displayed in the mirrors. The other important factor is that Beyoncé’s
commercial includes a theme Pepsi is continuing to share with their consumers. The theme was
“Live for Now.” The only words Beyoncé uses in the commercial are, "Embrace your past, but
live for now.”
