PUE is very basic metric to calculate data center energy efficiency. It stands for power usage
effectives (PUE) which is calculate by dividing total datacenter energy by IT equipment energy.
PUE of 1.0 is the ideal for the datacenter managers because it means datacenter power is 100%
effectively managed but getting PUE to 1.0 is nearly impossible due to power losses, cooling and
lighting. Lowering the PUE towards 1.0 is very important step because it has direct impact on the
cost savings.
