Victory or Death!
In San Antonio Texas in The Alamo stood guarded by an estimated 187 men in 1836.
About 1500 Mexicans arrived at The Alamo to fight the army of Texans ready to fight for their
independence. They were led by Colonel William B. Travis. Towards the end of February in
1836, General Antonio de Santa Anna arrived in San Antonio with about 5,000 Mexican soldiers.
At this point the Texans had only 150 volunteers with them at the Alamo. On February 24, a
group of men from Gonzales, came to help the Texans at the Alamo, which brought their total
number up to 187 men.
