VALUES AND ETHICS REFLECTION PAPER 2
I like to think of my values and ethics as a block of raw metal that was given to me in my
youth by my parents, who tried to instill in me basic principles of how to live a good life. The
early values and ethics that I had, were to treat others nicely, be fair with others, respectful and
courteous and to treat people how you would want people the treat you, love God and your
family. I believe that for me personally the biggest influence in my personal values and ethics
came from my Grandfather and the lessons and wisdom that I got from him, he was the greatest
influence in the person that I am today. My grandfather fought in World War two on the beaches
of Iwo Jima, the sight of some of the most bloody and ferocious fighting ever seen. He talked to
me of the value of life and sacrifice one must sometimes make for those who cannot fight for
themselves and the honor of men who defend what is right. That block of metal was then put into
the forge of life, as I joined the Navy at 17 and proceeded to see the beauty and wonders of the
