A current hot button topic is the issue of vaccines and their debated causality of medical
issues in the Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). As a medical laboratory technician who works
in the immunology department, I have found myself explaining how vaccines work to nervous
parents who don’t fully understand the process. Most are very understanding, and just want to
learn the process of how vaccinations affect their child, and why there are so many of them.
Personally, I believe that those who can be vaccinated should be vaccinated. It helps with things
like herd immunity and there are no reputable studies that link vaccines and autism.
I can’t speak for all hospitals or clinics, but my lab has a process. For vaccinations,
everyone is screened for pre-existing conditions, and if they are deemed able to receive a
