Subject: UX Test Analysis Report on Pom Pom Instruction Manual
Executive Summary:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usability of our Pom Pom instruction manual.
Three volunteers were prompted to test our kits and were given detailed consent and information
about our group objectives before they began. We completed two tests on April 9th and one on
April 11th. Each test was set to take place within a 20 minute allotted time period. Classmates
came to our work station in the classroom where they sat down and were presented with their
own Pom Pom kit, informed consent form, and instruction manual.
After we started tracking the time we let the testers start on their pom poms without interruption.
We helped them when they requested assistance to insure the completion of the activity and
thorough results. Given participant input and our own evaluations, we decided to make a few
small changes to the format and wording of our Pom Pom Instruction Manual. To ensure the best
user experience we enlarged the photos and made the cutting and tying steps more detailed.
Objectives of the Test:
The product and manual we developed was for the creation of yarn pom poms. We created kits
with all of the materials mentioned on the instructions and allowed the volunteers to test our
manuals effectiveness in building our kits. In particular we wanted to test the visual and written
instructions and how they aided in the user’s experience.

All participants stated that they did not have any experience making pom poms and only
participant #3 said he was a “big fan of crafts.” We did not expect them to predict how the pom
pom was going to be made given that 2 of our group members did not know either.

Methods:
Our UX testing plan entailed using the observation method, rather than the think-aloud protocol
or a combination of the observation method and the think-aloud method. After the user tested our
product, we asked post-questions to gain feedback and information about our instruction manual.
Testing was held in the ENG 317 classroom in Boardman on Tuesday, April 9th and 11th, 2019
at 9:30am-10:45am . We tested 3 individual users on our instruction manual readability for a
maximum of 20 minutes to see if they are able to create a pom poms in within that time. There
was a follow up post-question section to wrap it up for about 5 minutes after the user completed
their pom poms.
Steps repeated for each test:
1. The user sat at our work station and were presented with a digital copy of our informed
consent form where they confirmed to participate in the study.
2. We presented the user with a physical copy of the manual and their own pom pom kit.
3. Courtney read and introduction where she introduced the team and formally asked for the
