the paper claims, what evidence it uses to support its claim, and how that claim fits into
what we have learned in class. Articles are available on JSTOR or in the library.
Your essay should be 3 to 5 pages in length.
Tips for writing a good paper:
You should read the paper through, and then ask yourself three questions about the
paper:
1. What claim does the author make in this paper?
2. Do I believe this claim? What evidence does the author present to convince me that I
should believe the claim?
3. If the claim is true, what implications does that have for understanding the growth of
the US economy? Does the author’s claim agree with or contradict other claims we
have seen in the class?
