Unit 4 Case Study
As a school counselor I have faced a variety of issues from student to student conflicts,
students and teacher conflicts, child abuse, self-harm and gender identity issues just to name a
few. With every situation I have to determine how to follow policy but also ethically develop
solutions to these problems and always keep the best interest of the students in the forefront. A
situation that comes to mind that challenged the school policy and my ethical standards was with
a sixth grader I will call Anna. She was dealing with her gender identity. Anna came to me
conflicted about whether she wanted to be identified as a male or a female. It was my job as her
school counselor to guide her and provide a safe environment for her.
Anna came to be half way through her sixth-grade year questioning her sexual identity.
