Response number one to the rumors spreading on Acmes chat sites is not reassuring to
the reader. The message is vague, offering the reader little to no information on the supposed
employee layoffs. While the writer might be satisfied with the response, the anticipation of the
HR plan that is to be released on Monday would only upset the employees more. This wastes the
employee/readers time, disrupts the efficiency of the organization, and does not create goodwill.
Response number two might have the information that the employees/readers want to
hear, but it is not communicated in a professional way. This response essentially makes any non
HR employee out to be a liar. This would not be beneficial to the organization, and would not
build goodwill between employer and employee. This message is not complete.
Response number three gives more information regarding the merge of the two
companies and their plan to retain all current employees, but still gives off a rather negative
attitude. When referring to the HR plan for the following year, the memo asks the
readers/employees to “…do the math. This would make most employees feel that they are being
talked down to. This response would satisfy the the reader since it states that there will be no
layoffs. That, in turn, would satisfy the writer since they would no longer see rumors of layoffs
making the rounds on Acmes chat sites. This response is clear, complete and correct, it saves the

readers time, and it would build more goodwill within the organization than it would hurt.
However, I do not believe that this is the best response to the rumors.
Response number four is written in an extremely condescending manner. This response
might give the reader the answer they want to hear about the layoffs, but it also suggests that the
readers are wasting valuable company time by spreading the rumors. The author also implies that
the readers that were posting the rumors were complaining and should stop their whining. That is
a completely unprofessional response. This would not create goodwill within the organization. if
anything, this memo/response would cause more tension between employer and employee.
Response number five best satisfies all that are involved. The professional response given
by the writer reassures the reader that they are a valued asset to the company. This response also
