Understanding Literacy
When I hear the word literacy the first thing that comes to my mind is the ability to read
and write. Literacy on the surface may seem a very simple subject, either a person knows how to
read and write or they do not, but that is just a beginning of what literacy really is. In my view
literacy is not that simple to define. To understand the meaning of literacy, it would be helpful to
define literacy, and then to take that understanding and distinguishes between what is a literacy
practice and what is a literacy event then finally, describing how one can find literacy in real
