For the midterm assignment I decided that race has been a big issue in this country and
it’s a very sensitive subject to bring up, so I went with Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher
Stowe. This story is about a family of farmers that is struggling with debt and decides to trade off
two slaves to make the money. The two in question are Uncle Tom and Harry. The wife of the
farmer is upset because she had promised Harry’s mom that she wouldn’t sell her son. Eliza
though overhears the conversation the Shelby’s have and alerts the other slaves. Eliza and Harry
then take off to North to escape. The Shelby’s were kind to their slaves but not the buyer, Haley,
