The Unabomber: The Case of Theodore J. Kaczynski
Introduction
Theodore Kaczynski, also known as the Unabomber, was inducted in1998 on a capital
murder charges. The deaths were initiated by “letter bombs” he sent through mail (Hickey,
2014). He was confirmed to be intelligent though mentally ill and suffering from paranoid
schizophrenia. His advocates argued that his defense at trial be mental state defense. For this
case, upon conviction, the case would be based on mental disability. Mr. Kaczynski, however,
opposed the idea of psychiatric testimony and wanted the case based on political and ideology-
issues. He appealed to the judge twice to allow him pursue his claim without legal
representation. At long last, Mr. Kaczynski’s case did not go to trial.
