While reading the articles assigned, I realized that I can relate to most of these topics.
There are also some areas where I lack and could definitively improve. I would say the
articles which mostly fit my personality are “How to Hire Curious People and Keep
Curiosity Alive” and “Angela Duckworh and the Research on Grit”. The one article which
made me really want to better myself was the “Habits of Successful College Students”.
First, I would like to talk about the curiosity article. I found this article to be very “me” as I
read it. I do consider myself very curious. My favorite question would probably have to be
“why?”. “Why does this work this way? Why does it do this? Why doesn’t it work like
this?” I love knowing the reason behind of everything. My curiosity leads me to learn may
different things. In the article, there was an example of a new hire who showed innate
curiosity because he wanted to teach himself French. I could relate to this person because I
am currently teaching myself Korean and Chinese. I have taken courses in both languages
and in my spare time I go on to quiz myself and see how much progress I make. I also
watch videos and buy workbooks to help me better understand the languages and their
culture. I also believe this is a great example of grit.
Grit, as Angela Duckworth defines it, is “sticking with things over the very long term until
you master them”. In this case, I would like to believe that I am very gritty. For example, I
mentioned learning the two new languages. I know that one day I can be fluent in both
Korean and Chinese and I will not stop until I have achieved that.
