Twitter
I have never been a big fan of Twitter’s online community ever since it became one of the
biggest online social networking website. Although, many of my peers joined Twitter when
it got popular, Twitter had always been one of the online community that I never touch.
Before I decided to give Twitter a try, one of the biggest reason that stopped me from
joining Twitter is because I thought anything that Twitter can do, Facebook can do it too. It
would make me spent double amount of time on social media when both website is almost
like a duplication of each others. Therefore, there is no point of using Twitter when I’m
always active on Facebook. Another reason that turned me down from joining is because I
dislike the fact that in order for me to keep up with the people that are active on Twitter, I
have to check my phone every two minutes for their updates and it’s mainly about
insignificant updates of their lives, which I am not very interested because I don’t need to
know every small details of my friend’s life. With many of my peers’ recommendation, I
have decided to give Twitter a try. By examining the use of the social networking website,
Twitter, after developing relationship with this website from daily usage, I will show some
of the discourses and rhetoric that Twitter users express themselves with.
Since a lot of my peers suggested me to join Twitter and I was quite curious about why this
community is so popular, I decided to give it a try and join the community. Before I went
on the official website of Twitter, Twitter.com, I did some background research on this
social networking website. Twitter was founded by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone
and Noah Glass in March 21, 2006. Twitter is slightly different from other blogging
website because it’s not just an online social networking website but also a micro blogging
website. It’s different because Twitter have a limit on what the user can posts meanwhile
other blogging website doesn’t. With curiosity I began to sign up with a new account on
Twitter. After I made the account, I went through the tutorial of how to get started for using
this online community. I found that Twitter is very different from Facebook. Unlike
Facebook that people have to send a request for other in order for both of them to become
