Report on an Art Gallery Exhibition Visit
The name of the venue that the exhibition was in was the Fine Arts Gallery.
This was on campus in the Fine Arts building. The art show was called “Minute
Gallery Alumni Exhibition Art Crawl.” The exhibiting artists were students enrolled
in Arts130 and Arts 131 this semester and it showcased some from each course.
These students included: Brit Clapper, Gerald Llorence Jr., Jessica Buie, Ben
Osheyack, and Julie Welch. This exhibition was up between September 3rd and
September 17th this year.
The art exhibit to me was small and felt personal because of that. It was small
so you didn’t have to walk around much to be able to examine everything so I felt
like I was able to connect with the artists a bit more because there weren’t many. It
was all very clean and there was no type of distraction when I viewed all of the
pieces. None of the pieces really connected with each other but again because of the
space they were in, they all felt connected.
One art piece that really stood out to me was the Untitled series by Julie
Welch. This was the only piece that was made of ink on paper. It was a series of
drawings in pure black in white and they were all framed with some very light
wood. All of the drawings were completely different from one another but they all
consisted of a girl in different predicaments. The one that stood out the most to me
was the one where the girl has her head on her pillow with a window with a curtain
almost fully over it. But it shows that there is pure darkness outside. Her body isn’t
in the photo because her torso is melting. The main focus of this drawing is clearly
the blackness because of it’s contrast with the completely white background. The
whole portion surrounding the girl which is blackness seems to be what the artist
wants the viewer to see. The black shirt she is wearing seems to be engulfing her
