“Trifles” is a murder mystery that explores gender relationships, power between the
sexes, and the nature of truth. According to Webster dictionary trifle represent something
of little value, substance, or importance. The play “Trifles” demonstrates how men have
the assumption that women are seen as trivial and are not worthy of respect by men. This
idea is conveyed throughout the play (p. 935 Schakel & Ridl). The scene is interesting
because it sets the tone. You can imagine the setting taking place in an abandoned farm
house somewhere distant from other homes and kind of gloomy. The setting was wrote
to help the reader to understand just how sad the main character, Mrs. Wright’s life was. It
also helps to understand why she loved her pet bird so much. And more importantly, the
dramatic setting helps the reader to understand why she killed her husband. During the
