Teachers in Decatur County have been issued the charge of being able to provide
quality classroom instruction to the students of our county in an online format due to our system
going to distance learning as a result of COVID. The platform that all teachers in our county are
required to use is Google Classroom. There are several teachers within our math department at
Bainbridge High School that lack the knowledge to do the required tasks. This inspired me to do
my IDP on training teachers on how to complete this task.
The performance gap that is being addressed in this task analysis and in my
Instructional Design Project, is that many teachers are unable to perform their required
responsibilities due to the inability to create a Google Classroom and post lessons within it. The
teachers also lack the knowledge of how to use the tools Jamboard and Screencastify to aid
them in making their online lessons. The learners that are being targeted are all the 9th Grade
Algebra I teachers at Bainbridge High School.
The approach that I chose to use when performing my task analysis was the Procedural
Task Analysis approach. I chose this approach over the other available options because this
approach doesn’t require the subjects to actually learn a new concept or principle, but rather
they just have to be able to complete a set of sequential steps in order to fulfill their
requirements. This is different from the Hierarchical approach because it can often require
prerequisites. With the Procedural approach, you must complete one step in order to move
ahead, yet Hierarchical is similar to working backward. The steps in the Procedural approach
may be simple to complete or they can be complex, however, if followed correctly then the
desired outcome should be able to be reached. It is very important that when using this method,
it is made clear to the learners where the starting point is and where the ending point is. The
Procedural approach is similar to the Information-Processing Analysis approach in the sense
that they both consist of steps that must be followed to achieve the desired outcome. When the
process is thoroughly thought out and executed, the results should be to achieve success. The
