One second he can be in the war and the next he can be on a distant planet named
Tralfamadore. It may seem that it is more impossible for Billy than Mikey to come to face
reality however in this case it turns out that way. While we know through Billy’s thoughts
that he does not like traveling without control he seems to come to peace about what’s
happening. “Well, here we are, Mr. Pilgrim, trapped in the amber of this moment. There is
no why” (97). As the Tralfamadorians shaped Billy’s perspective he seemed to come to
peace with himself.
The last and most important theme in all three of the texts is the confliction on if family is
a blessing or a curse. In each of the texts each other main characters have family members
that both are a blessing and sometimes can be a cure to their well-being. For example,
Gregor Samsa’s family in, “The Metamorphosis” tries to help him at first as his sister
would leave him food and his mother would cry about him. However, during the story
Gregor’s father forcefully tosses apples at him and they become lodged into his back.
Gregor wants nothing but the best for his family and even though they alienate him he still
puts their best interest in mind. In this story the family is a curse in my opinion because
they make very minimal effort to actually help Gregor. To me it was almost as if they did it
almost just to say they tried, but didn’t show any really care for him. At the conclusion of
