ASQ (2014): TQM in management stands for total quality management. Which, total
quality management describes a management approach to long-term success through
customer satisfaction. In a total quality management effort, all members of an organization
participate in improving processes, products, services, and the culture in which they work.
Within this paper, I will be discussing the advantages of total quality management in
management. Also, the implementation challenges of total quality management. Finally, I
will discuss some businesses that have benefited from using TQM.
First off, I will start by taking about the advantages of total quality management in
businesses. According to Accounting Tools (2013), the advantages of this process are cost
reduction, customer satisfaction, defect reduction, and morale. Cost reduction can happen
when total quality management is applied within a company over time consistently. With
these cost reductions flowing straight through the bottom-line profits without any
additional costs being incurred, there can an increase in profitability. If customers are
satisfied with the business, there could be lower customer complaints. The less customer
complaints the business has, may mean that the resources devoted to customer service can
be reduced. At the same time, a higher customer satisfaction rate could lead more business
for the company. Which means more money for that company at the same time. Total
quality management strongly puts focus on improving quality within a process, rather than
inspecting quality into a process. At the same time of reducing the time needed to fix
errors, it also makes it less necessary to employ a team of quality assurance personnel.
