Children are born with the different sex, which is the biological characteristics that
determine one’s being male, female, or intersex. As children growing up in the age of 2-3,
they start to realize the different behaviors and attitudes between girls and boys, which is
called gender. A different choice on toys is one of apparent behaviors and attitudes to
present children’s gender. The popular toy store “Toys R Us” is a great place to observe the
gender behaviors. From my observations, it is interesting to find that the store is separated

another part is filled with Barbie dolls and tea sets. The two separated parts are attracting
two groups of people, boys and girls respectively. Functional analysis, as it explains in the
textbook, “is viewed as composed of various parts, and each part has a function that, when
fulfilled, contributes to society’s equilibrium” (Hensilin, pg. 35). Therefore, from my
perspective, functional analysis is the theoretical perspective to discuss the toy store “Toys

also boy’s favorite. It benefits the boys working in the field of engineering and science
departments. On the other hand, the girl’s section is filled with pink color. Compared with
