TOURISM IN GB
Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) is a very sparsely populated high-mountain area in the north of
Pakistan. Its natural environment is usually described with superlatives the longest
glaciers outside of the polar region, home of the world’s second highest peak (K2) and
four more eight-thousands. GB is largely a high-mountain desert; geologically, it
spreads over three high mountain systems: Himalaya, Karakorum, and Hindukush. The
society of GB is diverse in terms of language, religion, and ethnicity.
Following are the famous viewpoint of gb
1. Fairy Meadows is the point where three world-famous mountain ranges meet-
the Himalayas, the Karakorams, and the Hindukush.
2. K2 (Mount Godwin-Austen) is the world’s second-highest mountain peak. Visit
the K2 Museum located in Skardu near the K2 Motel.
3. All the district of gb has atleast one fort the fomus among them are Shigar
Fort [4], Kharpocho fort, Kharmang fort, Khapulo fort.
4. Rock carvings Dating back to the 8th century A.D., a huge Buddha figure
surrounded by small Buddhisatvas is carved on a rock, three kilometers from
Skardu, across Sadpara Nullah on the Skardu-Sadpara Road. Pre-historic men
and animal figures are carved on rocks alongside a Lake. Some rock carvings
and the diagram of a monastery near Mehdi Abad are also found.
5. Singal This spot in the Punial valley offers ideal trout-fishing opportunities.
6. Rama A lake in this region offers an awe-inspiring view of the eastern side of
Nanga Parbat, 8126 meters high. For the adventure-loving tourist, hiker, art
lover, mountaineer, there are few places in the world that can compare with
Gilgit.
