Quality Function Deployment
Quality Function Deployment is a planning process for products and services that starts
with the voice of the customer. Basically, it enables people to think together.
Using QFD allows the charting of customer wants and the technical how which results in
a better understanding of design relationships. You can also include a competitive
analysis. People on your team will be better aligned and able to think together towards a
solution.
Product Development Stages
1. Market Requirements Stage
– In this stage, the company identifies the product or service key benefits and
its value proposition. A value proposition is a feature that intends to make a
company and its product or service attractive and appealing to the
consumers.
– It also tackles the product attributes that the customer desires.
2. Functional Specification Stage
– This stage talks about the product and how it will meet customers’
expectations by organizing its attributes according to the customers desire.
– It identifies certain characteristics of a product that would make it both
beneficial and effective to the customers.
– It prioritizes engineering characteristics
– The company could also compare their product to the products of their
competitors so as to know how the product is performing in the market.
3. Product Specification Stage
– This is the product-making stage. It will determine how the product would be
made. The company also gives out its look, its physical specifications. CAD is
usually the tool that they are using to provide the design and the
specifications of the product.
