1. As Diane’s new assistant, you need to flowchart this process. Explain how the
process might be improved once you completed the chart.
As Diane’s assistant I would first accustom myself with the flow of Diana’s flowchart. I would
take a few days to study the various inputs and the process flows. Once this is done then I could
suggest improvements if any. The process in place right now is very well continued, however
different Labor and Delivery (L&D) floors on which facilities for operations and normal delivery
are scattered. In case of emergency the delivering mother has to be transferred many times from
different floors, rooms, and facilities. This process can risk important time and also utilize
excessive man power. One suggestion is to assign one entire floor or wing of the facility
exclusively for L&D operations. This would reduce any redundant movement of delivering
mothers; floor 8 would be adequate since that’s where the triage process starts for the mother.
2. If a mother is scheduled for a Caesarian–section birth (i.e. the baby is removed from
the womb surgically), how would this flowchart change?
Patients who are expected to have a cesarean or surgery may skip the in between steps and jump
from step 1 to step 7. With this action, step 7 would become step 2 as the mother would already
